Welcome back to your Home Business Blog. In the last post I talked about convenient ways to make money blogging by using software solutions to change regular links on your website to affiliate links. My goal for today is to give you some more tips so you can better rank your websites and blog posts, resulting in traffic boost and more business opportunity. Remember there are many great SEO tricks in this other post. Stick to using some of those tricks and you will find it easier to rank your website on Google, especially if you put out content which is rich in information and overall usefulness for your target audience.
The first aspect I want to discuss with you today is that when it comes to SEO there are “on page” optimization features and there is also “off page” optimization features. I want to give you some quick actionable tips you can start using today in order to make your website more visible.
Firstly let’s look back at an old post which talks about how much traffic a website receives depending on the position it ranks, for some keyword. From the title of the post you can see being ranked number one for a keyword received 33% of the traffic generated for that keyword. As of lately I have found sources that claim 70-90% to be a more accurate figure in more recent years. This is laser targeted, free traffic coming from the largest search engine. Google serves as much as 70% of all the traffic we see on the web today.
If you are able to fine tune your websites and posts around certain keywords you will be able to capture some of this valuable traffic coming from Google. There are many ways you can find keywords to target. A free tool you can use is google keyword planner. With this tool you will be able to use a search term and find many keywords related to that term. It will tell you how many visitors on a monthly basis search for the search term in question and also if there is HIGH, MEDIUM or LOW competition when it comes to ranking for the keyword.
Now I wish I could tell you targeting free traffic coming from Google was as simple as looking for a low competition keyword using keyword planner and producing a post about it. As you will come to realize things don’t work that way. The primary goal from the perspective of Google is USER EXPERIENCE. So you have to focus on producing engaging content with infographics, videos and quality information to share with your chosen audience. I was reading a post from Neil Patel and he discussed the fact that on average he spends $600 per infographic. He recuperates his investment when people start pinning and sharing the infographic in question. The fact that some of the authoritative figures in this space are willing to spend so much money to create shareable content makes affiliate marketing and content development strategy very competitive. This is why today some people find success after joining various companies and affiliate programs which provide them with premium tools and resources to become more competitive in this industry.
NOTE: Some people say business education is a scam stating the fact that all information is freely available on the internet. I would agree with this to some degree. If you search hard enough and read and dig deeper you can find a lot of useful information. The problem is… it takes a long time to find the information and then pick between what is useful information and what is misleading data. I have found that it also takes a lot of creativity to use this information in ways which can result profitable to your business. Often times masterminds give you a new perspective on what is working for other people… so they don’t just give you the information… they show you what they do as well. In the end even if you have the information unless you execute everything you have learned you won’t see any meaningful results.
So anyway, let’s get back on track with website ranking techniques and more specifically keyword ranking. In some of my previous post I talked about Page Rank (PR) and Page Authority (PA). Generally speaking the better the (Page Rank) and (Page Authority) of a website the easier it will be to rank for competitive keyword combinations. What does it means for freshly released websites that haven’t build any authority or reputation? It means we should focus on creating content around lower competition keywords. It is recommended to pick keywords which receive 1000-8000 hits per month based on google keyword planner or other SEO analysis keyword tool.
By targeting keywords which are not highly sought after by authoritative websites you will have a chance to boost your organic traffic. It then becomes a task of creating lots of content in order to promote your brand, business, products and services. As time passes your online presence will grow stronger and then you will be able to leverage Domain Authority and Page Rank to easily rank for your chosen keywords. This will bring about business growth and prosperity… but to get there you will need to work very hard and avoid competing with already established websites in your niche during the earlier stages.
NOTE: According to many sources I have read from a great strategy is to find keywords with low search volume and then perform a Google search to see which websites are ranking on top. They use various tools (some paid) and (some free) to see the Page Rank and Page Authority of the top 3 websites that appeared on the search. Compare those metrics to your website by running your website on the same tools and see if you could compete with the websites that appear for the keyword you want to target. If your page rank and page authority is equal (or better) you have a winning keyword and you should produce content around it. If their rankings are much better than yours… then you should look for easier competition. Page Rank and Page Authority is just part of the story and there are many other signals taken into account by search engines to produce rankings. Some of the other criteria include on page optimization, the number of times the page in question has been shared and the comments posted by visitors that read the content. Based on those other factors is possible that you could rank higher than a website with more authority but often times this is still difficult to do even when you apply the right SEO strategies.
Now when it comes to on page optimization there are many great tricks to achieve better website ranking or page ranking. Firstly you should always use your target keyword on the title of the post. Next you should mention your target keyword on the first (and last) paragraph of the post. Many SEO specialist tell you to mention it within the first (and last) 25 words of the post… some even start their post talking about their target keyword. The reason they do it this way is because it helps the search engines more easily determine what a post is about so is much easier to rank for that term. Many SEO specialist and content gurus out there talk about KEYWORD DENSITY which is the number of times your target keyword appears on a post. Some of them will tell you to use your keyword 1-3 times every 100 words (1-3% ratio) in order to achieve maximum benefit while other sources suggest keyword density doesn’t make a difference any longer.
NOTE: Once again we find another topic where is not clear what the right strategy to use should be. What some people argue is that search engines like Google have been improving their algorithms by applying artificial intelligence and other software solutions which are capable of evaluating the meaning of the words used on a page in accordance to the context in question. In this sense… last generation Google algorithm pays less attention to keyword density because it has the ability to determine what an article is saying based on the context of the written text and so it can match a user search intent to your article even if the keywords don’t necessarily match.
I know from personal experience sometimes I find great results on Google which do answer my search query even when the keyword I used did not necessarily match the resulting term.
Other on page SEO tricks include to tag images in your post with related keywords you want to rank for and to bold, italicize or underline such keywords when they appear on your post. You could also place bigger font or “sub headlines” which allow to let visitors know (and search engines) what specific sections of the post are focusing on. Often times they try to emphasize their keywords by wrapping the text on H1, H2 or H3 tags which enlarge the font.
When it comes to “off page” SEO factors I will point you to this other post. Off page factors is all about link building. The more quality links that you can build the more your website authority will improve.
NOTE: When it comes to building links I would recommend you to use link building services with proven track record of delivering results. You should aim for a balanced link building portfolio to avoid being penalized by Google. Recall one of the best ways to build links today is to do guest posts. You can also exchange links with other bloggers or webmasters but once again don’t abuse this practice as there is the likelihood Google will penalize you. Some of the best SEO experts in the business hustle their way to link building by reaching out to other bloggers and webmasters and convincing them to add a link to their website.
To conclude if you want to improve your website ranking and earning potential with your online business you should focus on targeting low competition keywords that receive less than 8,000 hits per month. You should also perform competitor analysis to determine if the businesses ranking for your target keyword have built authority in your niche. Lastly focus on building a post with “on page” optimization techniques and then build links to it using “off page” optimization techniques. This is the right strategy to bring organic traffic from Google for your newly launched Home Business website or blog until you build authority to compete for more challenging keywords which receive hundreds of thousands or millions of searches per month. Building a business takes time… but following these strategies will get you to success faster. I hope you find this information useful. I know I wish someone had told me all of this months back when I first started building my home business.
